Molasses Stove-Top Beans Cooking Tips:
- Be patient- beans take time to cook especially if you are starting with dried beans, you will have to soak the beans overnight before cooking. Cook time varies, typically for this recipe beans will become tender after 1 ½ hours but depending on your preference it could take up to 3 hours. Be sure to make the Molasses Stove-Top Beans on a day when you are able to keep an eye on the stove.
- If you are adding salt to the recipe do so at the very end, salt can extend the cook time.
- Cooked beans will last well in an air-tight container refrigerated for 1 week or freeze for up to 3 months.
Molasses Stove-Top Beans
Ingredients
- 3 (15 oz.) cans great northern beans, rinsed and drained
- 1 cup water
- 6 oz. tomato paste
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon clove
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- pinch of salt
Instructions
- In large pot, add all ingredients bring beans to a boil, reduce heat to a gentle simmer for at least 1 hour.
